Q: What do I need to coach
A: In order to coach there are a few things that are required before you can step on the field.

  • Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Checks. If you go to the Burnside HRP detachment you should not be charged a fee as they should charge BSMF directly. We have a letter than we can send to you that you can take with you that explains this. However, if you do get charged directly, please keep your receipt and mail it to BSMF at 489 beaver bank road, beaver bank B4G 1B8. Receipts can also be handed in to Mike Duquette - Coaching Coordinator, Alain Lefebvre - Vice President or to John Strowbridge - President. Please do not give it to anyone else to hand in. Once we have your receipt, BSMF will reimburse you. We will also be asking you to do the same when submitting a hard copy of your Criminal and Vulnerable Sector checks. Please mail a copy directly to us at: 489 beaver bank road, beaver bank B4G 1B8 OR hand a copy directly to Mike, Alain or John.
  • Provide us with your NCPP # by emailing it to us. If you do not have a NCCP # you can get one at: http://thelocker.coach.ca
  • Please also let us know by email (vicepresident@bsmf.ca and president@bsmf.ca) when you have completed the following courses:
    1. Intro to Comp ( attend this course in person)
    2. Making headway in football ( completed online, can be done through: http://thelocker.coach.ca)
  • New coaches have one year to complete the Intro to Comp. The “Making headway in football” online courses must be completed prior to the season and you must email us that you have completed this course. If you have completed Intro to Comp please email that to us as well.

Q: When Does The Season Start/End?
A: We are permitted to start conditioning camp in July, with full gear tackle practises starting in August. The season usually ends in mid-November (pending playoff performance). The Mites usually start mid-August and the season runs until the end of October.

Q: What is the Schedule like?
A: For 2023, Mites practice from 6:00-7:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During August there will also be practices on Saturdays from 12:00-1:30pm.  Atoms follow a similar schedule however their practices may be 2 hours. Bantam and Peewee Practice from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a 10:00-12:00 practice on Saturdays in August. Games  may start Labour Day weekend and take the place of a weekend practise. The game schedule is put together by Football Nova Scotia, and once it is received it is shared with the parents/players.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: Most of the equipment is covered with your registration. You will require your own cleats and a properly fitted mouth guard. The rest of your equipment will require you to give us a postdated cheque for $500.00. This cheque is not cashed this year. Once the season is over and you return the gear, we will return back the deposit cheque. If gear is not returned, the cheque will be cashed the following calendar year.

Q: How do you handle communication within the organization?
A: Once your child is registered with the organization, you will soon receive an email to join TeamLinkt. TeamLinkt is a tool we use to keep track of teams schedules, rosters, statistics and messages. You can either download the app for your phone or use a website to access.

If you have any other questions feel free to reach out to President John Strowbridge - president@bsmf.ca or Registrar Lindsay Hill - registrar@bsmf.ca
